Cervical cancer is caused by DNA damage* to cervical cells as a result of an HPV infection. Most HPV infections never cause DNA damage*. So if you have HPV, it doesn't mean you are developing cancer. But you do need to know if your HPV has caused DNA damage*.
DNA damage* to your cervical cells may put you at greater risk of developing cervical cancer.
